Québec City fue el lugar elegido para nuestros días de trabajo, nos alojamos en un apartamento singular en los límites de la ciudad, Para explorar de forma más cercana la vida corriente de la ciudad por fuera de su hipnotizante centro histórico.
Québec City was the place chosen for our work days; we stayed in a unique apartment on the edge of the city, to explore more closely the ordinary life of the city outside its mesmerizing historic centre.
Barrios de calle anchas bien arborizadas y casas con balcones y escaleras metálicas predominan en el paisaje y crean una atmósfera refrescante.
Neighbourhoods with wide, well-tree-lined streets and houses with balconies and metal stairs predominate in the landscape and create a refreshing atmosphere.
Cada día exploramos algún aspecto desconocido de la ciudad, alimentando aún más el sentido de gusto por el lugar. Tarde con café, noches con buena comida y exhibiciones reveladoras llenaron el tiempo. La galería de arte nos dio acceso a una colección de arte Inuit de inmensa belleza, con piezas únicas, que gracias a la firma en que son exhibidas, nos permitió hacer una inmersión en los detalles de las tallas y la multidimensionalidad de las obras. El Centro Huron-Wendat ofreció una apreciación más profunda de esta Primera Nación.
Every day we explored some unknown aspect of the city, further fuelling the sense of taste for the place. Afternoons with coffee, evenings with good food, and eye-opening exhibits filled the time. The art gallery gave us access to a collection of Inuit art of immense beauty, with unique pieces, which, thanks to the way in which they are exhibited, allowed us to immerse ourselves in the details of the carvings and the multidimensionality of the works. The Huron-Wendat Centre offered deeper appreciation of this First Nation.
En el museo de las civilizaciones, la exposición sobre primeras naciones provocó una inmersión rica en las prácticas de los diversos grupos existentes en Québec, mientras nos relató con cuidado los diversos desafíos que dichos pueblos han tenido que enfrentar en la historia. La colección de videos cortos presentando diversas capacidades y técnicas de la población Inuit fue de gran valor.
In the museum of civilisations, the exhibition on first nations provoked a rich immersion in the practices of the various groups existing in Québec, while carefully telling us the various challenges that these peoples have had to face in history. The collection of short videos presenting various skills and techniques of the Inuit population was of great value.
De otro lado una extensa exposición sobre diversidad de género, fue la cereza del pastel de nuestra visita, no solo por su carácter educativo, sino además por la posibilidad de reflexionar sobre la propia identidad y de encontrar en esa experiencia lo diverso de nuestra existencia por fuera de las convenciones.
On the other hand, an extensive exhibition on gender diversity was the icing on the cake of our visit, not only for its educational nature, but also for the possibility of reflecting on one's own identity and finding in that experience the diversity of our existence outside the conventions.
Salimos hacia el Norte para explorar el fjord de Saguenay. Para nuestro pesar los incendios comprometieron el parque provincial del mismo nombre en la porción occidental del Mismo.
We headed north to explore the Saguenay fjord. To our regret, the fires compromised the provincial park of the same name in the western portion of the park.
En la ruta, el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Baie-Saint-Paul ofreció una rica colección, el parque nacional de los grandes jardines, nos permitió contemplar la inmensidad de las montañas y el bosque protegido. Cimas rocosas grises e inmensas crean una corona para la contemplación y la exploración. La ruta sinuosa da espacio a la sorpresa en la revelación de nuevas formas del paisaje y la vegetación cargada de líquenes, pequeñas flores e insectos ocupan la mirada y distraen la atención continuamente.
On the way, the Baie-Saint-Paul Museum of Contemporary Art offered a rich collection, and
Grands-Jardins National Park allowed us to contemplate the immensity of the mountains and the protected forest. Immense grey rock peaks create a crown for contemplation and exploration. The winding road gives room for surprise in the revelation of new forms of the landscape and the vegetation loaded with lichens, small flowers, and insects fills the eyes and continually distracts attention.
Dormimos en ruta al Lago San Juan, en donde pudimos participar del gran encuentro Mamuhitananu de las primeras naciones de Québec, en Mashteuiatsh. Una reunión del fin de semana, con deportes tradicionales, danzas, artes y música. Llegamos en la mañana justo al momento de iniciar las ceremonias del día.
We camped on the way to Lac Saint Jean, where we were able to participate in the great Mamuhitananu gathering of the first nations of Québec at Mashteuiatsh. A weekend gathering, with traditional sports, dance, arts, and music. We arrived in the morning just as the day's ceremonies were to begin.
Una colección inmensa de color y belleza, expresada en las manifestaciones de los diferentes pueblos, su riqueza ceremonial, la amplitud de sus manifestaciones y esa sentido de orgullo por ser quien eres, que embelesa y genera una atracción irresistible.
An immense collection of colour and beauty, expressed in the manifestations of the different peoples, their ceremonial richness, the breadth of their manifestations, and that sense of pride in being who you are, which enchants and generates an irresistible attraction.
Palabras de los líderes, entradas de las banderas, conexión con los dioses, respeto a los ancestros y finalmente el Pow pow. Estuvimos 6 horas sentados en una gradería de madera, disfrutando la música de los tambores, las danzas en las diversas categorías y el poder del Reconocimiento. Mientras lentamente nos sensibilizábamos para apreciar los detalles, las diferencias, las formas inusuales y la grandeza de culturas que viven en integración plena con su entorno.
Words from the leaders, entrances of the flags, connection with the gods, respect for the ancestors, and finally the pow wow. We spent six hours sitting on a wooden bleacher, enjoying the music of the drums, the dances in the various categories, and the power of Recognition. While we slowly became sensitive to appreciate the details, the differences, the unusual forms and the greatness of cultures that live in full integration with their environment.
Con el corazón palpitante terminando el día, sin muchas palabras, pero con la sonrisa en nuestra cara de quien procesa la delicia en la complicidad de la experiencia compartida.
With a beating heart ending the day, without many words, but with the smiles on our faces of those who process delight in the complicity of the shared experience.
El día comenzó con un cambio inesperado, la lluvia y la ventisca
habían cesado y el sol iluminaba tímido la costa. Aún el viento era fuerte para
pensar en café, así que desayunamos con la idea de iniciar la ruta pronto.
Sinembargo, Alan descubrió una caminata guiada a través de los ecosistemas de
parque y nos entregamos a la experiencia.
The day began with an unexpected change, the storm had stopped and the sun timidly illuminated the coast. The wind was still too strong to think about coffee, so we had breakfast with the idea of starting the route soon. However, Alan discovered a guided walk through the park's ecosystems and we surrendered to the experience.

Seguimos al este para tomar la ruta 389 al norte, en la intersección Baie Comeau nos atrapa con una café, algo de comer y un corto transitar por el pueblo. Descubrimos una bahía espaciosa, llena de rocas que claramente se despejan con el cambio de la marea.
We continued east to take route 389 north, at the intersection Baie Comeau offered us a stop for coffee, something to eat, and a short walk through the town. We discovered a spacious bay, full of rocks which clearly appear and disappear with the changes of the tide.
En la ruta, muy pronto el bosque se apoderó del paisaje, la infraestructura de las hidroeléctricas estuvo muy presente al inicio del viaje y mucho más adelante en Manic 5, en la primera mitad del trayecto la cicatriz ceniza del último incendio fue impactante. En la segunda parte el esplendor del bosque y la ruta alteraron nuestra respiración, la ruta es una pista ondulante en todos los sentidos, creando una cadena de sorpresas con cada curva, en la cima un bosque saludable de Black Spruce, se abre 180 grados y el cuerpo inspira profundo, consciente de la abundancia de aire y luego una larga apnea, esas de sorpresa y admiración y en el descenso una espiración larga que deja que todo salga y nos deja vacíos para un próximo ciclo. Cuando llegamos a Manic 5, una inmensa represa se elevó al frente de nosotros. Paramos en la Estacio de servicios cuya dinámica y bullicio contrasta con la calma de la ruta. Allí en medio del caos fuimos conscientes de nuestro error.
On the route north, the forest soon took over the landscape, the hydroelectric infrastructure was very present at the beginning of the trip and much later in Manic 5. In the first half of the journey the ash scarring from the last fire was shocking. In the second part, the splendour of the forest and the route caught our breath. The road is an undulating track (in every direction), creating a chain of surprises with each curve, at the crests a 180 degree vista of a healthy forest of Black Spruce - the body takes a deep breath, aware of the abundance of air, and then a long apnea of surprise and admiration, and on the way down, a long exhalation that leaves us empty for the next cycle. When we reached Manic 5, an immense dam rose in front of us. We stopped at the service station whose dynamics and bustle contrasted with the calm of the route. There in the midst of chaos we became aware of our mistake.
Habíamos Mal interpretado la información y seguía una sección destapada de 100km, tarde al final del día, recordé a Marsh diciendo “No manejen de noche, esos animales (moose) son grandes” los planes indicaban llegar durante la última luz, si algo pasaba no tendríamos tiempo de seguridad.
We had misinterpreted the information we had found and found that there was a ~100 km unsurfaced section, to be drivenlat at the end of the day, Marce remembered Marsh’s saying “Don't drive at night, those animals (moose) are big” the plans indicated our arriving during the last light; if something happened we wouldn't have any safety cushion.
Fue una excelente oportunidad para revisar nuestras prácticas, y los supuestos que estábamos usando, y encontrar los mecanismos a i oleen tar para evitar sistemáticamente esta situación.
It was an excellent opportunity to review our practices, and the assumptions we were using, and find mechanisms to use systematically to avoid this situation.
Ningún Moose, dos zorros, muchas corrugaciones y bellos paisajes. Llegamos al último minutos para poder encontrar el campamento con luz. En minutos ya estaba oscuro y el fuego fue nuestra fuente de recogimiento. El viento se hizo más fuerte y el fuego dejó de ser seguro, el cielo estaba totalmente cerrado, con esa oscuridad la única opción dormir.
No moose, two foxes, lots of corrugations, and beautiful landscapes. We arrived at the last moment in which we could find the campsite in light. In a few minutes it was dark and the fire was our source of meditation. The wind became stronger and the fire was no longer safe, the sky was completely closed; in that darkness the only option was to sleep.
Comenzamos el día con una pausa en la lluvia, el viento fuerte refresco los pensamientos, café, desayuno y estábamos listos para explorar.
We started the next day with a break in the rain, the strong wind refreshed our thoughts; coffee, breakfast, and we were ready to explore.
Habíamos dormido en una área de arena y roca al lado del agua, fría y oscura, en ella una pequeña embarcación enriquecía el paisaje. Esa mañana, hicimos una ruta a la cima de la montaña. La primera parte del sendero es un museo de arte innu al aire libre, desde allí, un estrecho paso sube por la montaña entre el bosque boreal. Un sendero húmedo, colorido, limitado por los arbustos de labrador tea y sostenido por esponjosos líquenes y musgos, que son abrazados por las diminutas hojas de snowy berrys y los hongos que crecen libremente en todas partes. Un bosque saludable!
We had slept in an area of sand and rock next to the water, cold and dark, where a small boat enriched the landscape. That morning, we hiked to the top of the mountain. The first part of the trail is an open-air Innu art museum, from there a narrow pass climbs up the mountain through the boreal forest. A wet, colourful trail, bordered by labrador tea bushes and supported by fluffy lichens and mosses, which are embraced by the tiny leaves of snowy berries and mushrooms that grow freely everywhere. A healthy forest!
En la ruta dos ranas, las rocas, el agua deslizándose silenciosa por la superficie y los árboles cantando sus notas bajas nos acompañaron con su presencia, y en la cima, el lago, la isla y la inmensidad del bosque, llenos de vida, ahí dejándose contemplar.
On the track two frogs, the rocks, the water sliding silently on the surface and the trees singing their low notes accompanied us with their presence, and at the top, the lake view, the island, and the immensity of the forest, full of life, there allowing their contemplation.
Bajamos en silencio, descubriendo los frutos aún verdes de los arbustos, cosechamos labrador tea y llegamos abajo abrazados por la lluvia que nos tomó a it’s de camino, aún iniciando.
We descended in silence, discovering the still green fruits of the bushes, we harvested Labrador tea and we arrived at the bottom embraced by the rain, just beginning.
Fuimos a la estación de servicio, mientras pasaba la lluvia, nos regañaste unos en varios sentidos, hablamos con la persona que la maneja, con otros viajeros, y tomamos el tiempo para escribir las postales pendientes. La lluvia no cesó.
We went to the service station cafe, hoping for the rain to pass; we chatted the person who runs it, and with other travellers, and we took the time to write pending postcards. The rain did not stop.
Después de una ducha reparadora fuimos al campamento, aún llovía, la quietud solo se alteraba por el viento. Desde el carro comenzamos a observar la lluvia caminando sobre las aguas, moviéndose en dirección noreste con un paso determinado e incesante. No sentíamos ninguna gota sobre nosotros, pero la imagen de esta marcha incesante era indiscutible.
After a refreshing shower we went to the campsite, it was still raining, the stillness was only disturbed by the wind. From the car we watched the rain dancing on the waters, moving in a northeasterly direction with a determined and incessant pace. We did not feel a drop on us, but the image of this incessant march was indisputable.
Leímos en el carro, lento, juntos en voz alta. Y luego en un breve lapso de tiempo de pocas gotas, hicimos una danza frenética de té y preparación.
We read aloud to each other in the car, slowly. And then in a short time span of just a few drops, we did a frantic dance of tea and brewing.
A la cama, ya no había opción de sentarnos bajo las estrellas. La gotas danzaron en el techo toda la noche hasta que el sol a las 6:30 am las mando a dormir.
To bed, there was no longer the option of sitting under the stars. The drops danced on the ceiling all night until the sun at 6:30 am sent them to sleep.
Comenzamos nuestro camino mucho más temprano de la usual, al norte la ruta continuo espaciosa, con ríos transitando tranquilos y un bosque menos denso que nos dejaba ver su suelo, un tapete blanquecino cubre las montañas y las rocas como un pie de árbol haciendo a cogedor esté conjunto de líneas en el verde que solo se interrumpe por pequeños lagos, que sirven de hogar para los loons, que aparecen de nuevo a nuestros ojos.
We began our journey much earlier than usual, to the north the scenery continued to be spacious, with rivers passing calmly and a less dense forest which allowed us to see the ground, a whitish carpet covers the mountains and rocks creating a captivating surface of green interrupted by small lakes, serving as homes for the loons, which appear once again to our eyes.
La ruta se vuelve destapada de nuevo y esta vez la presencia de operación minera se hace más visible. Comenzamos a ver a lo lejos una mina gigante y pronto pudimos comprobar su tamaño y la transformación del paisaje.
The route becomes unsurfaced again and this time the presence of a mining operation becomes more evident. We began to see a giant mine in the distance and soon we are able to see its massive size and the transformation of the landscape.
Casi llegando a Labrador City, visitamos las cataratas de cristal, que caen por entre rocas de cuarzo y que nos dieron una bella vista de la ciudad. En el centro de información, nos abastecimos de datos importantes, especialmente la ausencia de infraestructura para acampar, así que nos tocaría nuestra versión más salvaje o mejor más silvestre.
Just before arriving in Labrador City, we visited the Crystal Falls, which fall through quartz rocks and where there is a beautiful view of the city. At the Gateway information centre, we stocked up on important data, especially the absence of camping infrastructure, so that we would be “wild camping” in Labrador.
Después de explorar las opciones locales continuamos nuestra ruta
al este, ahora con lluvia. Tendríamos una hora de 8:00 a 9:00 más seca,

Miron a las 7:58 y en ese momento se redujo la lluvia.
After exploring local options we continued our route east, now with rain. It was predicted to be drier between 2000h and 2100h: we reached the Miron River at 1958h and at that moment the rain reduced.
Usando la ventana de atrás del carro como protección preparamos una cena ligera, comimos bajo la lluvia y caminamos té en mano por la carretera para apreciar el río y disfrutar el tiempo seco. Esta vez no volvió a llover.
Using the back window of the car as protection we prepared a light dinner, ate in the lighter rain and walked tea in hand along the road to appreciate the river and enjoy the dry weather. This time it didn't rain again.
Continuamos nuestra ruta por entre áreas inundables, lagos y ríos, rodeados de black spruce y al borde de carretera Tamara, hasta llegar a Churchill Falls. Tomamos el sendero para llegar al punto de avistamiento de la cascada, una caída de 274 m y un cañón profundo captura la atención.
We continued our route through wetland areas, lakes, and rivers, surrounded by black spruce and tamarack on the edge of the road, until we reached Churchill Falls. We took the trail to reach the waterfall viewing point - a 274 m drop and a deep canyon capture the attention.
Lo que antes fue un volumen de agua que cubría toda la pared de roca y creaba una nube a agua pulverizada que impedía la vista a su base, hoy es una caída de un sexto del ancho de la pared y un cañón que parece sin agua, sin embargo la roca expuesta es un espectáculo en sí misma, llena de colores y oxidaciones, formas talladas por El Paso de los elementos y una extensión que no terminas de apreciar.
What was once a volume of water that covered the entire rock wall and created a cloud of spray which prevented a view of its base, today is a fall one sixth of the width of the wall and a canyon that seems without water; however, the exposed rock is a spectacle in itself, full of colours and oxidations, shapes carved by the passage of the elements and an extenyn that you cannot fully appreciate.
El sendero, no ha sido mantenido después del último invierno, pero el camino atraviesa el bosque y allí pudimos ver inmensos troncos de black spruce, que parecen de otro mundo.
The trail had not been maintained after the last winter, but the path goes through the forest and there we could see huge black spruce trunks, which seem from another world.
Seguimos hasta Churchill Falls, el poblado. Base de soporte de las operaciones del desarrollo eléctrico de la zona, un poblado formado en 1967 y que cuenta con los servicios básicos de soporte a la comunidad, todos reunidos en un mismo complejo de edificios, un sitio para hacer posible el encuentro.
We continue to Churchill Falls, the town. It was established as the support base for the operations of the hydro-electrical development of the area, a town formed in 1967 which has basic support services for the community, all gathered in the same complex of buildings.
Siguiendo la ruta al oriente, las gigantes torres de transmisión invaden el paisaje, una línea recta se presenta hasta el horizonte y a un lado o al otro la línea de torres está visible, con ella la franja de tierra despejada que da la sensación de una raspadura en la piel.
Following the route to the east, the giant transmission towers invade the landscape, a straight line appears to the horizon and on one side or the other the line of towers is visible, with it the strip of clear land that gives the sensation of a scrape on the skin.
Las huellas de un gran incendio nos acompañan por muchos kilómetros, los troncos de black spruse carbonizados en su exterior, se recuperan como el Ave fénix, deja do ver nuevas ramas verdes y hermosas formas cónicas en la punta, como si fueran árboles bebés naciendo en la cima del tronado previo. Es una lección de resiliencia, imposible de olvidar.
The traces of a great fire accompany us for many kilometres, the black spruce trunks, charred on the outside, recover like the phoenix, revealing new green branches and beautiful conical shapes at the tip, as if they were baby trees being born in the top of the previous thunderstorm. It is a lesson in resilience, impossible to forget.
Seguimos el camino hasta un descenso significativo y llegamos al Rio Pinus. Tomamos un pequeño sendero a la derecha y en minutos llegamos a una pequeña playa de piedras y al agua. El sol del atardecer iluminaba el paisaje, haciendo más intenso el color y la forma, fue un deleite, en segundos una colonia de insectos locales salió a recibirnos, conocimos 4 nuevas especies que no habíamos visto antes, todos volaba a nuestro alrededor, así manos a la obra: camisa cerrada, un retoque de repelente, coil prendidos en cada lado del carro, coil en la puerta del equipaje, y nuestra torre de repelente encendida. Un respiro, me cocinaba, yo solo quería ir al agua, otro respiro, imposible..si me desnudó me comen. Así que sillas, mesa, chaqueta y sentarse a mirar hasta que todos se calmaran. Respirar. Respirara. Yo solo quería ir al agua.
We followed the route until a significant descent and reached the Pinus River. We took a small path to the right and in minutes we reached a small pebble beach on the water. The evening sun illuminated the landscape, making the colours and shapes more intense; it was a delight, in seconds a colony of local insects came out to welcome us, we met four new species that we had not seen before, they were flying all around us, so hands to work: shirt closed, a touch of repellent, coils on each side of the car, coil in the rear door, and our repellent tower on. In one breath, Marce was cooking, she just wanted to go to the water, another breath, impossible...if she undressed they would eat her. So, chairs, table, jacket, and sit and watch until everyone calmed down. Breathe; just breathe -she just wanted to go to the water.
Finalmente, se alejaron, solo las moscas negras siguieron su vuelo incesante
Finally, they moved away, only the black flies continued their incessant flight.
