Desde Regina nos dirigimos más al oeste para la última parte del regreso a Vancouver. Teníamos varios lugares que queríamos visitar y que habíamos decidido dejar hasta el viaje de regreso al oeste. Nuestra primera parada después de Regina, en una mañana lluviosa, fue Moose Jaw, donde desayunamos (habiendo decidido no preparar el desayuno bajo la lluvia) y luego visitamos el excelente Museo y Galería de Arte. Luego nos fuimos y avanzamos hacia el sur y luego hacia el oeste hasta el Bloque Este del Parque Nacional Grasslands, a través de extensas llanuras onduladas, y finalmente el borde oriental de este enorme Parque. Nos registramos en el campamento y luego tomamos la avenida que conecta varios miradores con vistas a las “badlands”, antes de regresar al campamento para pasar la noche.
From Regina we headed further west for the final part of the return to Vancouver. We had several places we wanted to visit and which we had decided to leave until the return trip west. Our first stop after Regina, on a rainy morning, was Moose Jaw, where we had breakfast (having decided against preparing breakfast in the rain) and then visited the excellent Museum & Art Gallery. We then left and worked our way south and then west to the East Block of Grasslands National Park, through extensive rolling plains, and finally the eastern edge of this huge Park. We registered for the campground and then took the parkway which connects several viewpoints overlooking the badlands, before returning to camp for the night.
Por la mañana caminamos por el sendero del Valle de los 1000 Diablos, a través de arroyos secos debajo de la escarpa - un hermoso paseo en este ecosistema. Al regresar al campamento, salimos y condujimos alrededor del límite norte del parque hasta el Bloque Oeste, deteniéndonos en varios miradores y puntos de interés antes de llegar al campamento de Frenchman Valley. Nos alegró encontrar muchos bisontes en varios puntos del camino.
In the morning we walked the Valley of 1000 Devils trail, through dry arroyos below the escarpment. A beautiful walk in this ecosystem. Returning to the campground we left and drove around the northern boundary of the Park to the West Block, stopping at various lookouts and points of interest before reaching Frenchman Valley campground. We were pleased to find lots of bison at various points on the road.
El día siguiente nos llevó más al oeste, dejamos Saskatchewan y entramos en Alberta por una carretera destapada a través de una zona seca, para luego llegar a nuestro campamento en Milk River. Habíamos planeado acampar en el Parque Provincial Writing-on-Stone/Áísínai'pi, sin embargo, en el sitio web parecía que el campamento estaba cerrado durante la temporada, por lo que continuamos más al oeste, acampamos en Milk River y regresamos al parque, declarado Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO, la mañana siguiente (descubrí que el atractivo camping todavía estaba abierto). Hicimos una caminata guiada (los únicos visitantes en la caminata) que resultó ser excelente: aprendimos mucho sobre la Primera Nación Blackfoot, su historia, cultura, y prácticas, y pudimos disfrutar de las historias contadas por Dustin, nuestra guía.
The following day took us further west, leaving Saskatchewan and entering Alberta on an unsurfaced road through dry country, then reaching our campground at Milk River. We had planned to camp at Writing-on-Stone/Áísínai'pi Provincial Park however it appeared from the website that the campground was closed for the season and so we continued further west, camped at Milk River, and returned to the Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, in the morning (to find that the attractive campground was in fact still open). We went on a guided walk (the only visitors on the walk) which proved to be excellent – we learned a great deal about the Blackfoot First Nation, their history, culture, and practices, and were able to enjoy the stories related by Dustin, our Guide.
Desde aquí continuamos hasta Calgary, disfrutando de la hospitalidad de Ken, Lisa y Patricia, y luego continuamos hacia el oeste hacia Columbia Británica, con una parada nocturna en Crazy Creek, donde disfrutamos de las piscinas calientes antes de nuestra última noche en este ruta. La mañana nos llevó al pequeño pueblo de Malakwa y luego a Vancouver.
From here we continued to Calgary, enjoying the hospitality of Ken, Lisa, and Patricia, then continuing westwards into British Columbia, with an overnight stop at Crazy Creek, where we enjoyed the hot pools before our last night on the road on this trip. The morning took us into the tiny town of Malakwa, then on to Vancouver.
La última semana de nuestros viajes transcurrió en Vancouver: desempaquetamos el Wrangler y lo vendimos; pasamos tiempo con la familia, incluyendo una caminata hasta el lago Whyte, disfrutando de la amplia variedad de hongos en el sendero; luego nos despedimos y nos fuimos a casa. En nuestro viaje a casa tuvimos una noche no planificada en Richmond, debido a un retraso en nuestro primer vuelo, luego llegamos a casa el 20 de octubre, después de 152 días en Canadá este año, 307 días en dos años.
The last week of our travels was based in Vancouver: we unpacked the Wrangler and sold it; we spent time with family, including a walk to Whyte Lake, enjoying the wide range of mushrooms on the trail, then said our goodbyes and left for home. On our travel home we gained an unplanned experience of Richmond, owing to a delay in our first flight, then reached home on October 20th, after 152 days in Canada this year, 307 days in two years.
